My name is Zoe Thomson and I am 22 years old and an International Sailor currently also studying a Bachelor of Commerce part-time at the University of Western Australia.  My sporting goal is to represent Australia at an Olympic games and medal.  I am on track to achieving my Olympic goal having won the 2016 Laser Radial Youth World Championship in Ireland, in my first season in the class.

I began sailing at the age of 8 at my local yacht club and quickly fell in love with the sport.  My passion resulted in my sailing more than one class simultaneously from a very early age.  Having progressed through the junior classes I now sail the Laser Radial, the only Individual Women’s Olympic boat.   I will transition out of the ‘Youth’ (U19) category into the ‘Open-Olympic’ division this season travelling to Europe twice to begin my first Olympic campaign.

Based on my achievements to date I have qualified for:
  • the Australian Sailing Squad - Laser Radial
  • the 2016 Australian Sailing Youth Team in Auckland New Zealand
  • the Western Australian Institute of Sport Scholarship

I recently was recognised as WA Female Sailor of the Year
